The campaign manager for opposition Gambia Democratic Congress has criticised the Barrow administration for setting up a commission to look into the dealings of the local government administrations.

Momodou MC Cham Jnr denounced the  setting up of a commission of inquiry two months before the local government elections.

The commission has been widely denounced by the opposition calling it a “political witch hunt”.

“We all know that the mayors and chairmen don’t sign cheques. The people who sign cheques at the councils are government appointees.

“Did the government set up a commission into the D148 million Covid fund?  Haruna Jatta was shot  and killed, did the government set up a commission?

“The Securiport report, did the government set up a commission into D168 million scandal,” Cham Jnr told Gambiana.

“I don’t like injustice. The law that favours you today could go against you tomorrow. Let’s everything be on the right path. How many commissions have the government set up and what result have they gained? They punished some people and leave others

“If you want to start fighting corruption you start with top officials and come down. The money you want to allocate to set up a commission, can be use in other areas like health, education and agriculture,” he added.
