The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) North Bank Regional Command has apprehended a Sierra Leonean national, Ibrahim Buckle Kargbo, in connection with an alleged theft involving a large sum of money.
According to GID, the arrest followed a report by Alieu Jaiteh, an employee of BK Cash and Carry Supermarket, who alleged that the suspect, a driver at the same establishment, absconded with an amount estimated at about one million dalasis.
After receiving the suspect’s particulars, including details from his driver’s licence, North Bank Region Commissioner Mustapha Senghore ordered the immediate circulation of the information, triggering a search and screening operation.
At around 4:30am on Friday, 31 January 2026, the suspect was intercepted by Assistant Immigration Control Officer Alhagie Sarr while attempting to cross the border. He was found in possession of D42,045 and was arrested at the Kerr Ali Border Post.
The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Gambia Police Force for further investigation.
GID said it remains committed to safeguarding national security and supporting law enforcement efforts in the fight against crime.
