The heartbroken mother of a Mandinary man who died shortly after a clash with police has demanded answers over her son’s tragic death.

Binta Bojang said she was jolted awake by news of the incident and raced to the scene, only to find her son Omar Badjie unresponsive.

He was rushed to a clinic in Lamin where medics battled to revive him from a deep coma. Their efforts failed and he was transferred to Kanifing General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police deny responsibility, insisting Omar fell during a hot pursuit as officers carried out a routine patrol.

But his grieving mother dismissed the claim.

“We are shocked and surprised by what the police said, that my son simply fell and died. How can such a grown man fall and die? I want the truth,” she said.

Human-rights defenders have condemned what they call heavy-handed policing against unarmed citizens and are demanding a full, independent investigation into Badjie’s death.
