Veteran Gambian politician Halifa Sallah has advised against the culture of unconstitutional overstaying in power as a disease crippling the progress and development of the west African sub-region.

Sallah was speaking today (Feb. 12) at the national consultative dialogue between the government and opposition leaders held at the State House.

The meeting seeks to find solutions to the challenges affecting the country as well as promoting peace and stability.

“We all know that the overstay in office unconstitutionally have also been a disease in our sub-region, and causing a menace. So, we should sit down and look at these two issues.

“Unconstitutional overstay in office and unconstitutional assumption of office. How do we save the Gambia from such a reality? How can we debate on our constitution? Which we should now put to the fore because it helps us to build a politics that we own and we can all discuss this in order to shape a future that we all want,” he said.
