The Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) has officially appointed Mrs. Ida Jeng Njie as its new Director General, effective 2nd January 2026, marking a significant milestone in the country’s tourism leadership.

Mrs. Njie, who previously served as the Regional Tourism Director for the West Coast Region, brings extensive experience in tourism management and promotion.

Her appointment comes as The Gambia seeks to strengthen its tourism sector, attract more international visitors, and boost economic growth.

GTBoard described her promotion as a strategic move aimed at enhancing the country’s tourism initiatives and reinforcing The Gambia’s image as a premier travel destination in West Africa.

In welcoming Mrs. Njie, the Board extended its best wishes for a successful and impactful tenure, noting her proven track record in regional tourism development and stakeholder engagement.

Colleagues and industry partners have expressed optimism that her leadership will bring new energy and innovation to the sector.

The announcement also recognised the appointment of Mr. Abubacarr S. Camara as Deputy Head of Mission to The Gambian Embassy in Qatar, effective the same date.

GTBoard thanked Mr. Camara for his years of dedicated service and wished him success in his new diplomatic role, reflecting The Gambia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its international presence.

Mrs. Njie’s leadership is expected to focus on strategic tourism planning, partnership development, and promoting sustainable tourism practices.

Her appointment is seen as a key step in The Gambia’s broader agenda to recover from recent global tourism challenges and position the country as a competitive and attractive destination for international travellers.
