The Gambia Police Force has charged one Muhamed Kuyateh for allegedly dismantling and stealing four NAWEC electric transformers valued at D242,600 in Jamisa, Brikama.

The case was brought before Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 20 November 2025.

Kuyateh is accused of breaking into a transformer building and removing four 415-volt transformers belonging to the national electricity provider.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison. The case resumes on 1 December 2025.

Police prosecutors said tampering with national infrastructure such as electricity installations is a serious crime that threatens essential services and public safety. They warned that anyone found vandalising or stealing public infrastructure will face the full force of the law.
