The Ministry of Defence has warned the public that the operation of drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other aerial objects over key national installations is strictly prohibited.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (31 December), the ministry said restricted areas include State House, Banjul International Airport, and all defence and security installations, as well as their surrounding airspace.

The ban, the ministry said, is in line with national security requirements and existing aviation and public safety laws.

Any unauthorised aerial activity in these areas will be treated as a serious security violation and will attract severe consequences.

The ministry stressed that no individual, organisation or institution is permitted to operate drones or similar devices without explicit written authorisation from the relevant authorities.

Defence and security agencies have been instructed to take appropriate action against any unauthorised drone operations within restricted zones.

The Ministry of Defence urged all public and private drone operators to comply with the directive, calling on citizens and residents to cooperate in safeguarding national security and public safety.
