Abdoulie Ceesay, natiomal assembly member for Old Yundum Constituency, has defended his fellow lawmakers amid public backlash over their overseas trips.

The National Assembly Committees’ chairpersons and their deputies voted to discontinue all committee activities scheduled for May to allow 41 NAMs to travel to China and other countries.

However, amid raging public criticism, national assembly member Abdoulie Ceesay, asked the critics to “verify informations they are spreading for public consumption.”

“The fallacies going around on social media with some disparaging comments in their negative form regarding Members of Parliament traveling out to avoid enacting the Anti-Corruption bill are rather unfortunate.

“Some people should learn to understand how Parliament operates. That bill is already at the consideration stage and whether committees sit or not doesn’t affect the progress of the bill,” he said.

“For travel, as far as I know, it’s a fully sponsored trip, and Members (Your constituency representatives) are going to pursue knowledge outside in other to help them effectively discharge their functions. Is there anything wrong with that?” he added.
