The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has transferred Arona Tine’s murder case to the high court in Banjul

Tine, a Senegalese man, is accused of stabbing H&M Bureau staff, Fatoumatta Kargbo, to death on 19 January 2024 while attempting to rob the premises in Westfield.

When the case was called up, police prosecutor sub-inspector Jammeh requested for the murder case to be transferred to the high court

Magistrate Sallah Mbye accepted the request and cited section 187 of the criminal code that stated that the lower court does not have the jurisdiction to hear capital cases such as murder.

She ruled that the accused be remanded at the State central prison, Mile 2, pending the suspect’s appearance before the high court in Banjul.
