A newborn baby boy has been found abandoned in Mamuda village, prompting a police investigation into suspected baby dumping.
According to police, the infant was discovered in the early hours of 4 April near a toilet facility by residents, who quickly alerted authorities.
Officers from The Gambia Police Force responded to the scene and transported the baby to Sanyang Health Centre, where he was admitted and is currently receiving medical care.
Police say the child is under observation while efforts continue to establish the circumstances surrounding his abandonment.
Witnesses have provided statements to investigators, and the case has been referred for further inquiries.
The incident has raised concerns locally about child welfare and the challenges faced by some families, particularly in situations involving newborns.
Police are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
They also encouraged individuals facing difficulties related to childcare or pregnancy to seek help through available support services, emphasising the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children.
