
Police have arraigned eight people before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court in connection with disturbances during a protest in Daru-Busumbala on September 3.
The accused are Muhammed Touray, Muhammed Sillah, Omar Jobe, Omar Jarju, Madi Nyang, Samba Manneh, Munirou Manneh and Papis Njie.
They are charged with common nuisance, contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.
Police allege that the accused acted in a manner likely to cause danger, obstruction or annoyance to the public in Daru-Busumbala and other locations in the West Coast Region.
The court, presided over by Magistrate A. Darboe, remanded the eight accused at Mile II Central Prison and adjourned the case to October 6 for hearing.
A ninth accused person, Ebrima Janha, was not present when the case was called.
Police said they will continue patrols and other lawful security operations to maintain peace and public order.
