Police have detained 39 individuals in connection with Friday machete attack on immigration officiers at Gunjur beach Immigration post leaving three officers seriously injured.

They are currently hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries. 

The suspects are believed to have been speaking the Susu dialect, a tribe from Guinea Conakry, according to police.

Police have increased security patrol in the area and they have also intensified the manhunt for other suspects.

“39 suspects have been arrested including some individuals identified as part of the attack and assault on the officers.

“They are currently being processed for court actions,” police said on Saturday evening. 

The Gambia is currently suffering a spike in violent criminal activities including murder, rape and robbery.
