Police have swooped on crime ridden communities across Greater Banjul in a major crackdown on criminals.
The Anti-Crime Unit rolled out tough patrols in Old Yundum, Salagie, Brusubi Phase 1 & 2, Wellingara, Sinchu Alagie, Sinchu Sorrie, Abuko, Faji Kunda, Tallinding, Bundung, Sukuta, Sinchu Baliya, Latrikunda and Lamin.
“The patrols targeted crime-prone locations such as criminal dens, hot spots, ghettos, garages, and vehicle routes,” Police said in a statement.
Police said the show of force calmed the neighbourhoods, crediting the peace to the heavy police presence.
Meanwhile, two men, Muhammed Faal, 22, and Yaya Jaiteh, 29, were cuffed after a savage street brawl.
“A pair of scissors recovered at the scene was found to be in the possession of one of the suspects. Both individuals were handed over to the charge office for further police action,” the statement added.
Police chiefs vowed to keep the pressure on. They pledged more patrols and community crackdowns to “suppress criminal activities, safeguard communities, and maintain public safety nationwide.”
