Police have detained one of the Three Years Jotna leaders, Yankuba Darboe, as he faced new charges of sedition and “insulting” the judiciary. 

Mr Darboe who is in custody at the Police Serious Crime Unit in Banjul took to  Facebook to announce his detention this afternoon. 

“I am currently detained at police HQ, Serious Crimes, on new charges

“I have been however asked by the Police to report to Serious Crimes Unit today for more charges.

“They (Police) said I am charged with insulting the judiciary and sedition as the new charges, which I reported for today,” Yankuba Darboe wrote on his Facebook page.

The activist-lawyer and politician is also facing trial at the High Court in Banjul on charges of rioting and public disorder after the anti-government group Three Years Jotna staged a protest in 2019 calling for President Barrow to honour his election pledge and step down.
