The Gambia Police Force on Friday paid tribute to two young officers slain two years ago, as the government continues its efforts to deliver justice.

Shock gripped the nation on September 12, 2023, when an unknown assailant opened fire on three officers at Sukuta-Jabang highway. Paten Jallow and Sang J. Gomez were killed while Nancy Jawo survived with life-threatening injuries.

The force held its second remembrance for the fallen officers.

Deputy Commissioner Momodou Sowe said the officers died serving their country and must always be honoured.

“These officers showed courage, dedication, and service. Their actions remind us of daily risks our police take to keep us safe,” he said.

Representing the Inspector General of Police, AIG Paten Jallow added: “Two years may have passed, but the pain remains. Today, we honour their courage, remember their sacrifice, and reaffirm our commitment to justice, peace, and the rule of law.”
