The Gambia Police Force has launched an investigation into an alleged counterfeit currency case reported in the West Coast Region.
According to the Gambia Police Force, the incident was reported on Thursday by a Bureau de Change operator in Kololi, who alleged that she received US$450 in suspected counterfeit United States dollar notes from a young man for exchange.
Police said the complainant handed over D33,075 to the suspect, who fled the scene in a vehicle before the counterfeit notes were detected. Upon realising the currency was fake, she raised an alarm.

A tourist taxi driver reportedly pursued the suspect vehicle from Kololi through Bijilo to Brufut.
On reaching Brufut, two occupants allegedly escaped, while one suspect was apprehended and taken into custody along with the suspected counterfeit notes.
Police said investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
