The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has responded to allegations of inappropriate behaviour by Superintendent Lamin B. Sarr and other officers during the recent PURA protest.

In a statement, the GPF acknowledged widespread criticism of its personnel but defended Supt. Sarr’s conduct, saying he was acting within his professional duties as mission commander.

“His conduct was in line with his assigned duty, fully endorsed by the senior Police Command, and carried out strictly within the confines of the law,” the statement read.

The Police urged members of the public who feel aggrieved to pursue complaints through legal or administrative channels rather than social media.

“The role of the Police in the management of society is unique and must be recognized by all,” it added, stressing that the Force remains committed to protecting constitutional rights while safeguarding public safety and national security.
