President Adama Barrow has welcomed Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio to Banjul, meeting at State House to discuss regional cooperation and shared challenges facing West Africa.

Mr Bio, recently elected Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State, and Mr Barrow held talks on issues including peace and security, political transitions, economic integration, climate change, and youth unemployment.

“President Bio’s leadership and vision for our region come at a pivotal time,” Barrow said.
“I look forward to constructive dialogue during his tenure as ECOWAS Authority Chairman.”
The leaders also explored ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, education, tourism, and energy, while reinforcing cultural and historical ties between the two countries.
Mr Barrow highlighted Sierra Leone’s international role, particularly as Chair of the African Union Committee of Ten advocating for Africa’s representation on the UN Security Council.
“This visit is a testament to the enduring friendship between The Gambia and Sierra Leone, and our shared commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous, and united West Africa,” he added.
