Real de Banjul prodigy Modou Lamin Darboe has completed a loan move to Swedish side Hammarby IF for the remainder of the season, marking another major step in his rapidly rising career.
The talented winger, who has been nurtured by Real de Banjul since his early years, joins Hammarby at a time when the Gambian club continues to strengthen its reputation as a pathway for emerging talents to Europe. Darboe’s move follows a growing trend of Scandinavian clubs scouting in The Gambia, with Hammarby having previously secured the services of Suwaibou Kebbeh.
Speaking after sealing the deal, Darboe expressed his excitement at the opportunity “It feels like a dream to sign for a club of Hammarby’s size. I have always believed in myself but after not making the matchday squad in the early games at Real de Banjul, I never imagined that in less than twenty matches I would secure a move to Europe especially to such a big club.”
Modou Lamin Darboe’s journey has been one of patience and persistence, rising through the ranks from the academy to the first team, and now earning a move to Europe. His development, coupled with consistent hard work, has positioned him as one of the brightest young prospects in Gambian football.
Real de Banjul President William Abraham described the move as a testament to the club’s commitment to player development, highlighting Darboe’s growth and the club’s continued collaboration with international partners.
The loan spell in Sweden offers Darboe a platform to gain valuable European experience and further his development at a higher level, as he looks to make his mark with Hammarby IF.
