The Gambia produced one of the biggest moments in the country’s volleyball history after stunning Senegal 3-2 in a dramatic final to win the Zone II Championship and secure qualification for the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Volleyball Nations Championship in Congo.

In a match filled with intensity, emotion and incredible determination, the Scorpions fought back twice before completing a historic victory in front of an electrifying home crowd in Banjul.

Senegal made the brightest start and used their experience to claim the opening set 25-20, putting the hosts under early pressure.

But The Gambia responded with remarkable resilience in the second set, saving crucial moments before edging a thrilling battle 26-24 to level the match.

The Teranga Lions once again showed their quality in the third set, narrowly winning 26-24 in another closely fought contest to move one set away from qualification.

With their backs against the wall, the Gambian side delivered when it mattered most. The hosts raised the intensity with powerful serves and solid blocks to dominate the fourth set 25-19, forcing a decisive fifth set as the atmosphere inside the arena reached another level.

In the winner takes all set, The Gambia showed composure and belief beyond expectations. The Scorpions raced into the lead and never looked back, eventually sealing a memorable 15-10 victory to spark wild celebrations among players and supporters.
