Senegalese businessman and Pan-African advocate Thione Nyang has highlighted the role of leadership in driving development in The Gambia, pointing to visible reforms and growing investment opportunities across the country.

Nyang made the remarks during a visit to Banjul this week, where he met President Adama Barrow and held discussions with senior government officials on regional cooperation, infrastructure development and private-sector investment.

Speaking after the meeting, Nyang said leadership and long-term planning were critical to sustaining national progress.

“Leadership matters. Vision matters. And progress speaks for itself,” he said.

He noted that infrastructure development remains one of the most visible signs of change, particularly in road networks and public facilities, which he said are strengthening the country’s economic foundations and improving connectivity.

Nyang also described The Gambia as an emerging destination for investors, citing political stability, improving infrastructure and increasing regional integration.

“The Gambia is open for business, and the momentum is real,” he said.

He added that his visit also focused on strengthening cross-border cooperation in agriculture, technology and trade, stressing the importance of regional partnerships in driving inclusive growth across West Africa.
