Gambian Muslims, both young and old, fill the local mosque in Sinchu

Muslims in Gambia will starts fasting for the Holy Month of Ramadan on Tuesday April 13 after the crescent (moon) was sighted in Saudi Arabia. 

The crescent (moon) was seen in the town of Tumair according to reports from Saudi Arabia, and so tomorrow, Tuesday (April 13, 2021), will be the first day of Ramadhaan 1442.

Gambians have over the years advocated for the nation to fast alongside Saudi Arabia. 

Fasting will begin at sunrise after suhur and then finish at sunset with iftar.

All Muslims who have reached puberty are expected to fast during Ramadan.

The Holy month of Ramadan is considered a time of spiritual reflection, fasting and prayers.
