Two people have died following a fire outbreak involving a fuel tanker at Brufut Ghana Town beach.

Police said the blaze erupted on Friday when a television set in the fuel discharge area exploded, igniting the tanker (registration number BJL 6124 R).

The Anti-Crime Unit in Brufut and officers from Brusubi Police Station were first to respond before firefighters from Tanji arrived at the scene.

The victims, who were reportedly discharging fuel from the tanker, were killed while trying to escape the flames.

Investigations are under way as police work with other agencies to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
