A woman has been arrested at Mile 2 Central Prison after officers allegedly discovered drugs hidden inside a food container during a routine security check.
Prison authorities said the suspect, identified as Binta Jallow from Brikama Newtown, was detained on Monday after visiting the facility to deliver food to a remand inmate.
During an inspection, officers reportedly uncovered a plastic bag containing suspected cannabis and pills concealed inside a bowl.
The items were immediately flagged as contraband.

Jallow was arrested on the spot and later handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia for further investigation. She is expected to face charges under the country’s drug control laws.
Authorities have warned that attempts to smuggle prohibited items into prisons will be treated as serious offences. Officials also urged the public to support ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and maintain safety within correctional facilities.
