
An 11-year-old child has died and eight other people were injured in a road traffic accident in Tampoto, Foni, emergency responders have confirmed.
GPlus Gambia emergency responders said they were called to the scene where a total of nine casualties were involved in the crash.
The team said it provided first aid, stabilised the injured at the scene, and evacuated all casualties to Sibanor Health Centre for further treatment.
Tragically, the 11-year-old child was confirmed dead at the scene.
The driver involved in the accident remains admitted for treatment, while the remaining victims were treated for minor injuries and trauma before being discharged.
GPlus Gambia said its emergency team worked swiftly to manage the situation and ensure victims received urgent care.
“Our team assessed the scene, provided first aid, stabilised the injured, and evacuated all casualties,” the organisation said.
It added that the loss of the child was deeply regretted and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
“Our thoughts are with the bereaved family, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery,” it said.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the accident, and investigations are ongoing.
