The Gambia Police Force has confirmed a fatal road traffic accident near Kalagi involving a commercial vehicle and a private car with a Senegalese number plate.

The incident occurred between Bondali and Joreng, as both vehicles were travelling in the same direction toward Soma. Preliminary reports indicate that the rear tyre of the commercial vehicle burst, and as the private vehicle attempted to overtake, a collision occurred.

Tragically, 12-year-old Seedy Jammeh lost his life at the scene.

Both drivers and several passengers sustained injuries and were transported to Bwiam General Hospital for urgent medical attention. The injured include:

  • Lamin Touray, driver of the commercial Sprinter
  • Muhammad Abdoulie Nyang, 26, Senegalese national and driver of the private vehicle
  • Ida Ceesay, 35
  • Oumie Karry, 18, Senegalese
  • Abdoulie Minteh, 36
  • Yasanu Badginka, 46

Two additional victims, Tonko Saidykhan and Muhammed Minteh (ages unknown), were referred to Ndemban Clinic for further treatment.

The police extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged all motorists to drive cautiously, adhere to traffic laws, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before setting out.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
