At least 35 Gambian migrants currently held in an immigration detention centre in Germany are expected to be deported to Gambia on June 20.

Gambians living in Germany and other European countries have been rocked by mass deportation allegedly signed by the Barrow government.

“The third deportation flight for 20th June  2023 is set. It will carry another 35 Gambians. I can comfirmed all of them are already in police custody waiting for the date. Six more flights to go,” Yaya Sonko, German-based migrants rights activist told Gambiana.

At least 75 Gambians have so far been deported from Germany and other European countries in 2023.

Rights activists are calling on the Barrow government to broker talks with the European Union to put a stop to the mass deportations of Gambians.

Thousands of Gambian families largely depend on remittances wired by their relatives living in Europe and America for their livelihoods.
