Alhaji Ahmed Bensouda, a respected public servant and devoted Muslim, was laid to rest today at Jeshwang Cemetery following a solemn funeral attended by family, friends, and government officials.

Bensouda served as Permanent Secretary under the administration of former President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, earning a reputation for integrity and dedication throughout his career in government.

He was known for his honesty, commitment to duty, and devotion to helping others.

His journey began at St. Augustine, where he formed lifelong friendships, including with lawyer Ousinaou Darboe.
“He was committed to his education and deeply respectful in his relationships with others,” Darboe recalled.

Representing the government at the funeral, Hamat Bah, Minister of Lands and Religious Affairs, praised Bensouda’s legacy.
“Ahmed worked very well. He left behind a good legacy and was a good friend,” Bah said. “He was devoted to helping people, and we pray Allah grants him heaven.”

Imam Assan Jallow also highlighted Bensouda’s faith and charitable works, noting his commitment to Islam and support for the needy and poor.
He left behind four children, including Talib, who has inherited his father’s humility and grounded nature, and the current Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, reflecting the family’s continued public service.
