IEC chairman Alhaji Momar Alieu Njie

The Independent Electoral Commission has said its chairman Alieu Momar Njie is “alive and well”, as the Commission dismissed reports making the rounds that he has died. 

It comes hours after reports emerged that Mr Njie is dead. But his family and office however dismissed the report as ‘false’ and demanded an apology from media houses that reported the story.

A statement issued by the Commission on Tuesday, said: “The commission wishes to emphatically state that its chairman is fully alive, well and still at the helm of affairs at the IEC.”

The Commission Ele said the false reports of the octogenarian’s death was “shocking and hurtful”.
