Modou Lamin Bah, National assembly member for Banjul North, has told the Barrow government to implement the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission to deliver justice for Jammeh-era victims. 

Mr Bah was speaking at an event to commemorate the deadly student demonstrations of April 10 and 11 2001 were half a dozen students were killed and several others injured by the security forces. 

“Twnety-three years since the deadly student demonstration on April 10th & 11th. I stand with the victims who are still waiting for justice and reparation. 

“I urge the Government to implement the TRRC recommendations, give justice to the victims and end their suffering,” he said.

Meanwhile, The Gambia government said in a statement it is working on implementing the recommendations of the TRRC including setting up a well-publicised special international court with ECOWAS for the prosecution of perpetrators. 

“We recognised the need to memorialise the day as part of a comprehensive memorial plan that covers all atrocities committed between 1994 and 2016 and that consultations on the Memorialisation Plan will hold in Q3 2023,” the ministry of justice added.
