President Adama Barrow

President Adama Barrow has attracted backlash from Gambians on social media after he told a local TV station that the audit report is an “opinion”.

“You know all these…from the audit report which gives its opinion and it should not only stop at giving your opinion and make conclusion.

“The audit report can make mistakes. The auditor can be biased. If corruption happens also, we must do our internal investigation. Just like the case of Banja.

“He was investigated and taken to a court and Banja is among the permanent secretaries I liked because he is educated and can do the job.

“But despite that, we found some corruption in his case, he was taken to court and the court jailed him,” Barrow said.

However, the president said his government will look at the report and investigate anyone accused of corruption.

“We are doing our investigations to see if we can build a case around them and whether some people are found wanting.

“My stand is if anyone in the government is found wanting of corruption, you will be taken to court. I don’t have compromise on that because I have projects to implement,”he added.
