President Adama Barrow

Demba Ali Jawo, former information minister, has urged President Adama Barrow to look into the calibre of people he appoints as diplomats amid expulsion of three Gambian diplomats recently.

Jawo’s advice comes after United States of America expelled three Gambian diplomats for alleged visa fraud. The expelled diplomats are Mustaph Sosseh, Deputy Head of Mission, Finance attachè, Alagie Babou Joof and the First Secretary, Pa Sako Darboe.

“It is time the Gambia revisited its foreign policy, particularly as it relates to the calibre of people that are entrusted with the country’s foreign diplomatic missions,” D. A Jawo said.

“There is no doubt that the current foreign affairs minister Mamadou Tangara is one of the most experienced diplomats in the country, but that is certainly not being reflected in the way and manner that the country’s foreign policy is being currently implemented and managed,” he added.
