Brikama United secured a hard fought 2–1 victory over town rivals Bombada FC in the Sataybaa derby at Box Bar on Friday in the GFF Division One League.
The result comes just five days after Bombada FC recorded a historic 1–0 victory over Brikama United in the first round, their first win in the history of the fixture.
The hosts started brightly and nearly opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Sainey Bojang won a free kick in a promising area, but Sulayman Njie’s curling effort drifted inches wide.
Brikama United continued to press and created another opportunity in the 18th minute through a quick counter attack. Lamin Touray released Sainey Bojang, who cut inside before firing a shot straight at the goalkeeper.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 31st minute when Samba Jatta unleashed a powerful strike from outside the 18 yard box to break the deadlock with a stunning effort.
The home side doubled their advantage in the 81st minute after a sustained spell of possession. Banding Drammeh delivered a cross to the back post where Samba Jatta arrived to blast home his second goal of the match.
Bombada FC pulled one back deep into stoppage time when Omar Jallow converted from the penalty spot in the 96th minute, but it proved to be too late to change the outcome.
In other matches, Falcons recorded a convincing 3–0 victory over Greater Tomorrow FC. BST Galaxy came from behind to secure a 1–1 draw against Hart FC in Jarra Soma, while Steve Biko FC held Real de Banjul to a barren draw. Samger FC and Gambian Dutch Lions also shared the spoils in a goalless stalemate.
