The Gambia has appointed British barrister Martin Hackett as its new Special Prosecutor, tasked with investigating and prosecuting crimes committed during the Jammeh era, officials announced at a joint press conference on Tuesday.
Minister of Justice and Attorney General Dawda A. Jallow described the appointment as a “landmark step” toward accountability and justice for abuses under former President Yahya Jammeh.

Hackett, a seasoned barrister from the United Kingdom, will lead investigations into human rights violations, corruption, and other serious crimes alleged to have occurred during the Jammeh era.
