The Chief Justice of The Gambia, Hassan B. Jallow, has been appointed Vice Chair of the African Chief Justices Forum.

Jallow received the nomination during the African Chief Justices’ International Commercial Arbitration Summit held from 26 to 31 October 2025 at Pepperdine University’s Château d’Hauteville campus in Switzerland.

He was accompanied by High Court Judge Justice Omar Cham.

The summit brought together Chief Justices and senior judicial figures from across Africa to discuss international commercial arbitration, strengthening judicial cooperation and improving cross-border dispute resolution.

It was organised by Pepperdine University’s Caruso School of Law and supported by the Sudreau Global Justice Institute and the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.

In a statement, the Judiciary said the appointment reflects growing recognition of The Gambia’s commitment to judicial integrity, institutional development and modernisation of the justice system.

A certificate of completion was awarded to the delegation at the end of the week-long programme.

The Gambia’s participation forms part of ongoing reforms to improve efficiency, transparency and access to justice, including exploring commercial arbitration as an alternative to lengthy court proceedings.

The Judiciary said it remains committed to building international partnerships and strengthening a justice system that supports economic growth and public confidence.
