Worshippers of Bakau Star of the Sea church are in talks with their lawyers to sue a group who attacked the church and vandalised the statue of the blessed Mary, while people were attending mass.

Father Rev Peter Jammeh was also pepper-sprayed while trying to defend a frail old woman set upon by the attackers who stole her wallet and mobile phone.

“We have engaged our lawyers, so we are going to take it up. It’s not going to be something that will be put under the carpet. And then we are going to sue the government itself because they are supposed to protect us as we pay tax to the government.

“So if the government cannot protect us, it is going to be a problem. So we are not safe. The government should be doing its job of protecting all its citizens,” the Rev Father Peter Jammeh told Gambiana.
