Dr Ismaila Ceesay, the minister of Information and Broadcasting, has criticised Essa Faal, describing him as “unwise and incompetent” and asserting that he does not deserve Gambians’ votes.

Speaking at a National People’s Party (NPP) rally in Sukuta on Saturday evening, Dr Ceesay focused his remarks on Faal, who has been vocal in his criticism of government officials.

“Who will vote for Essa Faal, a man who is not wise and incompetent?” he asked the gathering, highlighting what he described as Faal’s unsuitability for leadership.

The remarks come amid early preparations for the December 2026 elections. Essa Faal, who contested the 2021 polls, is seeking another chance from voters after challenging the results of his debut election, citing alleged irregularities.

Dr Ceesay’s comments reflect the ruling party’s strategy to consolidate support while discrediting potential opposition candidates.

Essa Faal has not yet responded to Dr Ceesay’s criticism.
