Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, has denied accusations that he misled the public regarding the controversy over Auditor General Modou Ceesay’s appointment.

In an interview with West Coast Radio, Dr. Ceesay insisted he did not lie and maintained that he was reporting information he had at the time.

He said Modou Ceesay initially accepted the appointment before later declining it.

“I would not have the audacity to face the Gambian people and knowingly mislead them. That is not in my nature or character,” he said.

He dismissed suggestions that he fabricated the story, describing critics as “dishonest, gullible, or driven by ulterior motives.”

Dr. Ceesay explained that his initial understanding was based on the information available to him and that many had jumped to conclusions without examining the full sequence of events.

“If you have two sides of a story, an intelligent person analyzes both and looks for gaps before making a conclusion. I have seen people rush to judgment,” he said.

Although Auditor General Modou Ceesay issued a letter clarifying that he never accepted the position, Dr. Ceesay said his statement reflected the information he had received at the time.

“He wrote a letter two nights ago saying he never accepted the job and automatically declined it, but my comments were based on what I knew then,” he explained.
