Essa Faal

Legal practitioner and politician Essa Mbye Faal has recorded 3% support among respondents in the latest presidential opinion poll conducted by Gambia Participates.

The figure places Faal behind incumbent President Adama Barrow, opposition leader Ousainou Darboe and Coalition 2026 flag bearer Talib Ahmed Bensouda in the poll.

Barrow leads the field with 32% support, followed by Darboe on 25% and Bensouda on 19%.

Faal’s 3% puts him narrowly ahead of opposition candidate Mama Kandeh, who recorded 2%, while a further 2% of respondents said they intended to support other candidates.

The poll also found that 17% of respondents remain undecided, leaving a sizeable section of the electorate whose preferences could still influence the race as the election approaches.

Faal, a prominent legal practitioner, has previously contested the presidency and remains among the opposition figures seeking to challenge the incumbent.

The latest figures suggest that the presidential contest remains dominated by Barrow, Darboe and Bensouda, while candidates further down the rankings face the challenge of expanding their support base.

For Faal, the 3% showing highlights the task ahead as candidates intensify efforts to convince voters and distinguish their political programmes.

The findings come amid a rapidly changing political landscape, with opposition parties forming alliances and realigning ahead of the 2026 presidential election.
