The Gambian government has vowed to act decisively on findings from investigations into looted state assets, promising that anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law.

The pledge came as a seven-member cabinet met members of the public, including campaigners from Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA).

Their street protests had pressured the government to accelerate investigations into properties linked to former President Yahya Jammeh.

Finance Minister Seedy Keita said the government had set up several commissions of enquiry, including the Janneh Commission, the Local Government Commission, and a Parliamentary Commission on looted assets.

“We want the public to know that the commissions’ findings will be applied fully and without delay,” he said.

Information Minister Dr Ismaila Ceesay said: “we took this petition very seriously. A high-level panel was convened to scrutinize the submissions and provide a response to GALA.

“Today, seven cabinet ministers are here to show that we are serious. Fighting corruption and ensuring public funds are managed responsibly are top priorities. Dialogue should replace confrontation.”

The meeting reflects growing public demand for transparency and accountability in the management of state property.

Officials stressed that commissions of enquiry operate independently and that their recommendations would inform legal and administrative action against anyone found culpable.
