Members of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) on Wednesday presented the Commonwealth Games Baton to the British High Commission in a ceremony graced by Vice President Muhammed B.S. Jallow, officially launching The Gambia’s journey to the 2026 Games in Glasgow.

Earlier in the day, Youth and Sports Minister Bakary Y. Badjie handed the symbolic King’s Baton to Vice President Jallow, joined by officials from the National Sports Council and the GNOC.
The King’s Baton carries one of 74 unique words from His Majesty The King’s message, each entrusted to a different Baton travelling across the Commonwealth.

The full message will be reunited and read aloud during the Opening Ceremony in Glasgow to declare the Games open, symbolising global unity and shared purpose.

As preparations begin for Glasgow 2026, officials reaffirmed The Gambia’s pride and optimism for Team Gambia’s participation on the world stage.
