The Gambia has climbed eight places in the latest FIFA World Rankings, now sitting 115th in the world and 30th in Africa for September 2025.
The rise follows back-to-back qualifying wins over Kenya and Burundi, results that lifted Johnathan McKinstry’s side to third in their World Cup qualification group. Despite the improvement, the Scorpions would not make it to the 2026 World Cup.
Their recent form, however, could prove vital in securing a stronger seeding for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
