Gambia’s young athletes have blazed into the spotlight at the African School Games in Annaba, Algeria, setting up an exciting medal chase in today’s sprint finals.

Buba Bayo and Amadou Sabally both dominated their 100m heats, clocking impressive times of 10.66s and 10.87s respectively to secure their lanes in today’s highly anticipated final showdown.

Aminata Beyai also kept Gambia’s hopes alive in the girls’ 100m, finishing second in her heat with 12.57s to join the race for glory.

Meanwhile, Rohey Camara carried Gambia’s charge in the 400m, advancing to the next round with a time of 57.06s, while Maimuna Badjie, Hatab Touray and Fatou Jallow narrowly missed out on progression.

All eyes will now be on Buba, Amadou, Aminata and Rohey as they aim to sprint their way onto the podium and fly The Gambia’s flag high on the continental stage today.
