The Gambian government has issued a formal advisory to Gambian citizens following the recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East, urging nationals to prioritise their safety and remain vigilant.

In a statement, the Government called on Gambians residing in or travelling to affected areas to exercise heightened caution as the security situation continues to evolve.

Nationals have been strongly advised to avoid zones of military activity, public demonstrations, and large gatherings, which may pose safety risks.

The Government also urged citizens to closely follow official communications and security guidance issued by host country authorities.

As part of precautionary measures, Gambians abroad are encouraged to ensure their travel documents and identification papers are valid and readily accessible at all times.

The statement further recommended deferring non-essential travel to areas currently experiencing heightened tensions.

The Government advised citizens to maintain regular contact with the nearest Gambian diplomatic mission. In countries where The Gambia does not have diplomatic representation, nationals are encouraged to seek assistance from friendly diplomatic missions where necessary.

Additionally, the Directorate of Diaspora and Migration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Banjul remains available to provide support and guidance.

It reaffirmed that they are closely monitoring developments in coordination with international partners.

Reiterating its commitment to the protection of its citizens, the Government stressed that the safety and welfare of Gambians at home and abroad remain a top priority and assured that further updates will be communicated as the situation unfolds.
