Kanimang Bajo, the proprietor of Ejabah Travel Agency who is accused of defrauding hundreds of intending Hajj pilgrims of D68.69 million, has been remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison after the prosecution argued that releasing him on bail could endanger his safety.

When the case resumed before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, prosecutors told the court that Bajo had failed to satisfy the D70 million bail conditions previously imposed.

The prosecution further submitted that police investigations were still ongoing, revealing that investigators had travelled to Guinea-Bissau as part of efforts to complete inquiries into the alleged fraud.

They also urged the court to keep the accused in custody, arguing that many of the alleged victims remain angry.

“The victims are very angry and if Kanimang is released on bail, it is not safe for Kanimang himself. And also Kanimang was granted bail before but he couldn’t fulfil the conditions,” the prosecutor told the court.

Defence lawyers opposed the application, maintaining that the police were still not ready to proceed with the trial despite several adjournments.

The defence argued that investigators continued to rely on the same reasons for delaying the case and urged the court to strike it out.

However, the presiding magistrate declined the application, ruling that the prosecution would be given another opportunity to conclude investigations, citing the large number of complainants involved in the matter.

“The accused shall remain in detention until the next adjourned date,” the magistrate ruled.

The case was adjourned to 13 August 2026 at 10:00 a.m. for further proceedings.
