Angry villagers from Kartong and Berending have taken to the streets, holding banners and chanting in defiance as a bitter land row once again boiled over in the West Coast Region.
Dozens of protesters marched along the main road, their voices echoing with chants of fury and desperation: “We need our land! We don’t want civil war! We don’t want genocide! The government, we are warning! Respect the justice system! Our land, our lives!”
Placards demanding justice were waved high in the air as villagers accused the authorities of turning a blind eye while their ancestral lands continue to be swallowed up.

The flashpoint protest is part of a wider pattern of land disputes tearing through the Kombos.
As urban expansion accelerates, villages across West Coast Region have been gripped by bitter feuds, neighbours clashing over boundaries, families fighting to reclaim farmland, and whole communities accusing the state of siding with powerful land grabbers.
In recent years, Kartong, Berending, Gunjur, and Sukuta have all witnessed violent confrontations, sometimes leaving homes demolished and families displaced.
Locals warn that without urgent government intervention, the simmering rows risk spiralling into chaos.
