The Gambia Women’s National Team suffered a 3-1 defeat to Kenya in the first leg of the CAF TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers played at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
Fatou I. Cham Kanteh gave the Scorpions a dream start, scoring in the 3rd minute to put Gambia ahead early in the game.
However, the hosts responded swiftly, with Mwanalima Adan converting from the penalty spot in the 11th minute to level the score.
Kenya continued to press and took the lead in the 21st minute through Falisla Adeyabo, before adding a third goal later in the first half to make it 3-1 by halftime.
Gambia will now look to bounce back when they host the reverse fixture, needing a strong performance to keep their WAFCON qualification hopes alive.
