Yaya Sanyang, National Assembly member for Latrikunda Sabiji, has dismissed claims that President Adama Barrow purchased a fleet of brand new vehicles for lawmakers.

The National Assembly comes under public backlash for purchasing a fleet of brand new vehicles costing 2.5 million dalasis each

On the heel of the matter, Mr Sanyang said “to clear your doubts as to whether it is president Barrow who gave us these cars as gift? the answer is NO. You cannot give what you don’t have.”

“President Barrow don’t have these cars. The cars are loans and each National Assembly member will pay half of the loans whilst the National assembly as an institution will pay the other half for each member.

“In my considered opinion the public reaction should be a pride for National Assembly members in the sense that, the public don’t react to ministers using cars, permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, directors, heads of parastatals, governors, deputy governors and other senior public servants using official cars,” he added.
