The Medicines Control Agency (MCA) has raised concern over the growing number of unauthorised advertisements for medicines and related products on social media platforms.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency warned that the practice poses serious risks to public health and violates national laws regulating the sale and promotion of medical products.

The MCA said that promoting medical devices, cosmetics, supplements, and herbal remedies without prior approval contravenes Section 21(4) of the Medicines and Related Products Act, 2014.

“Any individual or entity found in violation of this provision will face the necessary regulatory sanction,” the agency cautioned.

It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that all medicines and related products circulating in The Gambia are “of quality, safe, and efficacious.”
