The National Food Security, Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the media to enhance public awareness and transparency in the country’s food security efforts.

The Corporation made the pledge during a one-day workshop held on Wednesday, 12 November, at the Ocean Bay Hotel in Bakau.

The event brought together journalists from print, broadcast, and online platforms to discuss how best the media and the NFSPMC can collaborate in promoting accountability, accurate information sharing, and better understanding of the Corporation’s work.

NFSPMC Managing Director, Muhammad Njie, described the media as a vital link between the Corporation and the Gambian people, noting that journalists play a central role in informing the public about NFSPMC’s achievements and challenges.

“The media is a key partner to the Corporation because we know that without the media, we will not reach our target audience,” Mr. Njie said.

“We also want this engagement to become an annual event so that we can continue to understand each other’s functions better.”

He said the Corporation values openness and constructive dialogue with the press as part of its efforts to build trust with citizens and key stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

Throughout the interactive session, journalists and NFSPMC officials shared ideas on improving access to information, facilitating timely press briefings, and encouraging accurate coverage of agricultural initiatives and food distribution programs.

Several journalists at the event praised the NFSPMC for taking the initiative to engage with the media directly.

They said such interactions help foster mutual understanding, reduce misinformation, and ensure the public gets reliable updates on government-led food security efforts.

The workshop ended with a shared commitment between the media and the Corporation to continue engaging each other in promoting national food self-sufficiency, supporting farmers, and encouraging fair market practices.
